Two patients are demonstrated in this film, showing the extremes of hormonal upset due to autoimmune thyroid disease. The first patient has classical gross myxoedema at a stage that should not be seen nowadays; the transformation after four months on thyroxine is dramatic. The second man has Graves' disease, but had been labelled a respiratory cripple because of silicosis, and this contributed to the missed diagnosis. He too has classical physical signs, including atrial fibrillation...
