Most people consider rabies to be a disease of importance solely in the developing world, but it is in fact ubiquitous and remains a perpetual threat even in developed countries. In India alone 30,000 people die from the disease each year, half of them children. Once symptoms (hydrophobia aerophobia or paralysis) have developed death is inevitable.
