Motivational interviewing resource. Health practitioners frequently find themselves exhorting patients to change their lifestyles. This DVD demonstrates a style in which to conduct such consultations and the accompanying CD provides worksheets to aid learning. Counselling is demonstrated by Chris Butler and Pip Mason (2010). The approach illustrated is that described in Health Behavior Change, A Practitioner?s Guide (Mason and Butler 2010, Churchill Livingstone). The DVD shows you the book?s authors (a GP and a nurse) in action. The accompanying CD provides a workbook (pdf and Word formats) to facilitate self-directed learning and, for trainers, there are handouts and discussion sheets (Word) for use with groups. The consultations are unscripted simulations with Pip Mason and Chris Butler playing the health practitioners and professional actors playing the patients. Six scenarios are portrayed, all in health care settings. Accompanying each scenario a different mix of videos are offered; complete consultations, alternative styles of consultations for you to compare, edited clips of particular strategies and feedback from either patient or practitioner about how the consultation felt.
